The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Eric Carle
This is another classic that’s probably pretty familiar from your own childhood. It has endured an astounding 45 years of being read and read again.
Children love this book for the array of sweet treats the little caterpillar munches his way through, and the conclusion (spoiler alert) of his transformation into a butterfly seems to wow them every time.
It has a sort of lift the flap element as the pages are shortened depending on how much the caterpillar eats on what day.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is so good we have three versions in our house – the standard one, the finger puppet version and for our older one we have the Spanish translation ‘La Oruga Muy Hambrienta’.
Buy it in hardback so it will go through from six months onwards (the food pages seem to be particularly tasty).
